Certification Exam Information and Schedule
Testing Eligibility
To be eligible to test, candidates must have successfully completed an approved Arizona Certification Program within the past year. Candidates have 3 testing attempts within one year, to pass the certification testing process after completing a certification program. If unsuccessful after 3 attempts, a candidate must complete another program to be eligible for additional testing opportunities.
Test dates and times are subject to change.
To schedule a test, please contact Melina Joya at melina.joya@azcfse.org, at least 2 weeks prior to the date you select below, and include the following information:
- Candidate Name
- AzSTARS EIN Number
- Candidate Phone Number
- Candidate Email Address
- Program Sponsor (Community College or Department that conducted your Program/Academy)
- What date/location do you want to schedule for? (See schedule below.)
- Type of Exam(s) Needed (i.e. Firefighter I, HazMat FRA and FRO, Firefighter I and II, Fire Instructor I…)
- Written/Practical Skills or Both?
No walk-ins will be allowed to test. Refer to the schedule below for available test dates/locations.
Certification Exam Schedule
Important Notice Regarding Illness:
If you are experiencing any type of illness you should NOT attend your scheduled exam and will need to reschedule for another date. Anyone displaying symptoms… such as coughing or experiencing any cold/flu-like symptoms will be sent home.
** Firefighter I & II and Hazardous MaterialsFRA & FRO Written Exams:
Test candidates are provided 1.5 hours to take a Firefighter exam and 1.0 hour for HAZMAT. Other exams may be taken with the exams listed below depending on the required exam time needed.)

**Written Exams for ALL levels will be held in Avondale at 10:00 am on the 3rd Friday of each month, except for August, or as otherwise noted.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The regular monthly written testing scheduled for Avondale in September, will be held on the 4th Friday of the month (Sept 26th).

** Additional Written Exams for Fire Instructor,Fire Inspector, Fire Officer, or Fire Investigator:
Tests listed here allow for all written exam retakes, up to a 1.5 hour test time. If the exam time is less than 1.5 hours it will be noted below.
Some exams have a maximum time of only 1.0 hour.
